Finding the Right Plastic Surgeon

So much work goes into finding the right Plastic Surgeon, plus the consideration of all the options regarding implant type, size, texture and placements that when the day of the actual procedure arrives you may feel a mix of nervous anticipation, fear, and hopefully some excitement, too. Here’s a brief overview of what you can expect on surgery day. To get a more specific idea, talk to your Plastic Surgeon.

When you get checked in, your plastic surgeon will mark the incision sites with a marker and you will be put under anesthesia which will make you fall asleep. You wont feel anything during the surgery and your breasts are also going to be numbed locally in addition to you being under general anesthesia. The Plastic Surgeon will then make the pre-marked incisions and use a cautery device to create a path to where the implant will be placed. Once the implants are placed, if the implant is a saline filled implant, it will be filled with saline to the appropriate size.

The doctor will make sure the implants are placed evenly and in a natural position. Then, the incisions will be closed and bandages. Most likely you’ll wear a compression garment for the next several weeks which will help keep down swelling and fluid build up as well as support your body as you recover. In rare cases, the Plastic Surgeon might put in drainage tubes to assist in reducing fluid and it will be removed the following day or two.
Finally, you’ll wake up in a recovery room and be checked up on as you come out of anesthesia. You will need someone to drive you home. In rare cases, if there is a complication, a patient may have to stay overnight for observation. Some facilities have recovery suites for patients who, for whatever reason, would prefer to recover at the facility.

Recovery From Breast Augmentation Surgery

The length of time needed for recovery from breast augmentation surgery varies from patient to patient and unforeseen complications are always a possibility in any surgery which may require an overnight stay. In the average scenario, however, patients generally will stay at the facility being monitored for a few hours as the anesthesia wears off and then are able to go home for the remainder of their recovery. You must have someone to drive you after the procedure, which is something you will need to plan ahead for.

Some facilities offer unique, special Recovery Suites for patients who would prefer to recover in the suites versus at their homes. Not all facilities offer this, so if this is a priority for you, you will want to make these arrangements prior to your procedure as well.

During your recovery period, you will have regular check-ups with your Plastic Surgeon to ensure that you are healing properly. As always, talk to your Plastic Surgeon to get a better idea of what you specifically may expect and remember that if at any time during your recovery period you have pain, questions or feel unsure of if you should call your Plastic Surgeon, always air on the side of precaution.

Reasons to Choose Breast Augmentation Surgery

The effects of gravity, weight loss and nursing can leave women with sagging or deflated looking breasts that point downwards. Sometimes these women are already satisfied with the size of breasts they have, but not with the directing they are drooping in. For these women a Breast Lift procedure alone may be able to give them the perkier breasts they desire. Other women, however, are both dissatisfied with the size and sag of their breasts, for which Breast Augmentation coupled with a Breast Lift is likely the best solution.

During the Breast Lift procedure, an incision will be made around the areola (sometimes varying incision patterns are necessary and can change on a patient to patient process- consult with your doctor). Next the areola will be placed higher to be more aligned with your perkier breasts. The excess skin is removed and the remaining skin is sutured, creating tighter, more firm and upright breasts. If desired, the areola may also be decreased.
